Shelton, Lambert Are Big CMA Winners, But ‘Pontoon’ is Show’s Hottest Topic

7/18/18

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – While husband-wife duo Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert won Song of the Year at this year’s CMA awards on Nov. 1, 2012, Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” generated more online buzz, according to research by Zehnder Communications.

Zehnder recorded nearly 2,700 social media mentions during the show for Shelton and Lambert’s hit “Over You.” That compared to almost 4,700 mentions for “Pontoon,” named Single of the Year.

Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood notched nearly 1,500 mentions for “best dressed.” Taylor Swift was next with 700.

Zehnder’s social media team tracked the biggest topics across a number of online channels, including Facebook, Twitter, blogs and forum replies, among others. The findings are compiled in Zehnder’s latest “State of the Listen” infographic, which is available for republication.

The “State of the Listen” infographic series has tracked social media mentions for a number of cultural and industry events, including Bonnaroo, Steeplechase and the CMA Music Festival earlier this year.
