Insight
Canal Street has always been symbolic of New Orleans’ ambition, history, and cultural energy. Originally envisioned in 1807 by French surveyor Joseph Antoine Vinache as a canal connecting key waterways, the thoroughfare evolved into the city’s grand boulevard and a modern hub of innovation and activity. This little-known origin story became the foundation for the new hotel brand, solidifying the importance of both a strong hotel storytelling strategy and thoughtful cultural branding in tourism.
Strategy
For this historic hotel rebrand, Zehnder reimagined the property as Hotel Vinache, drawing directly from the history behind Canal Street’s original vision. With a tip of the hat to Joseph Antoine Vinache, this hotel naming strategy immediately established a deeper local connection while signaling both sophistication and originality.
From there, Zehnder developed a brand identity reflecting Canal Street’s distinctive dualities – impressive yet approachable, historic yet forward-looking. The positioning embraces brand storytelling in hospitality, celebrates individuality, and invites guests into a more meaningful New Orleans experience.
Results
Zehnder brought the Hotel Vinache brand to life across a fully integrated ecosystem, ensuring consistency at every point of interaction. Deliverables included:
